Headboard Hype

With great new options such as chalk painted furniture, and discount stores such as HomeGoods, it’s easier than ever to mix and match different bedroom pieces for a more unique, eclectic look.

I have never personally been a fan of matchy patchy bedroom sets. Not that there is anything wrong with them, I just get bored so easily, and I am constantly mixing things up. A great headboard can be an amazing focal point in any bedroom – a bad one can be just as noticeable – but not in a positive way!

Today, I am sharing a few of my favorite headboard options with you. While standard headboards are great, and we have one in our room, sometimes it’s fun to use something unexpected as a headboard too. Try to be open when planning a room, and think about repurposing things you already have. It’s amazing why you can do with things you already have around the house!

1) Chalkboard

I love chalkboard headboards! They are so fun and inexpensive, and for someone like me who gets bored easily, they are a great option! This link has some amazing ideas for different headboard patterns using chalkboard paint – go take a look!

2) Metal Frame

This little pretty is from West Elm, and it is a beaut! Metal beds are so classic farmhouse, but they can also swing very industrial. True antiques can be hard to find (especially in good shape), so I really love this option because it gives an antique vibe, without any refurb work necessary.

3) Old Doors

I found this picture on houzz.com, and I LOVE this option. By adding a simple trim piece on top and legs to an old door, you can end up with an amazing headboard that screams shabby chic. So darn cute!

Here is another absolutely gorgeous bedroom that also uses old doors as a headboard, but with this option, no power tools are needed! By simply standing two old doors behind your bed, you can definitely make a statement with very little work or expense. (picture courtsey of Dreamy Whites blog).

4) Upholstered

Upholstered headboards are a personal favorite of mine. We have a grey one in our room, and we really love it. They can be pricey, but they don’t have to be! This option from Target comes in tons of color choices, and for a limited time, is 10% off.

There are also several great tutorials if you want to make you own.  My favorite tutorial can be found on Thrifty Decor Chick’s blog – along with a bunch of other amazing decor ideas!

5) Mantel

Mantels are not just for fireplaces! A mantel can add such an elegant touch to any room, and I just love the idea of using them as headboards. How gorgeous is this bedroom from Costal Living!?

6) Pallet Board

Pallet board furniture is becoming more and more popular. Due to the fact that it’s inexpensive (often even free of you get lucky), and looks great, it’s easy to understand why everyone adores it so much! I love this bedroom, and I really love the statement this headboard makes in this room.

I will leave you with a picture of our bedroom so that you can see how I have styled this area so far. I am still working in here, so please bear with me and know that it is not quite completed yet. I like to add things in piece by piece, and I still have a few very specific items that I am looking for.

Thanks so much for checking out my blog – I’m thrilled you stopped by! For more pics of our home, as well as all of our home projects, check out my Instagram account @aaragonaburns.
